Let’s keep this 100.
The mass mental, spiritual, emotional, financial AND physical incarceration of Black Men is evidence of a dream deferred. What happens to this dream, deferred, of a Black Man who is in all accounts, free?
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Do Black Men stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
like a heavy load.
A dream deferred can also cause a great uprising that manifests a different path to glory.
We can see this in the counter narrative being written about Black Men.
Such as this video by young Black and Brown Men:
The video incites a degree of sadness, that it is even necessary, but nonetheless, it is a part of the retelling of the story of Black Men. And that is why we have started a new series at Collected Young Minds called #BlackMenRock. There is a rich and true story about Brothas that must be told. We are part of a great uprising that evidences our dream deferred.
Take a look at the different posts* we have in this ongoing series and please contribute in your way to the counter narrative. Consider contributing to us** with a video, rap, photoblog or other creative piece of your own that displays why #BlackMenRock.
Keep the dream alive.
