Let’s keep this 100.

The mass mental, spiritual, emotional, financial AND physical incarceration of is evidence of a .  What happens to this , deferred, of a Man who is in all accounts, free?

Do Black Men dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Do Black Men stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe Black Men just sag
like a heavy load.
Or do Black Men explode?

It’s fitting to use the words of our Langston Hughesfamous poem to describe the possibilities of the fallout of the story of Black Men.

A dream deferred can also cause a great uprising that manifests a different path to glory.

We can see this in the counter narrative being written about Black Men.

Such as this video by young Black and Brown Men:

The video incites a degree of sadness, that it is even necessary, but nonetheless, it is a part of the retelling of the story of Black Men. And that is why we have started a new series at called #BlackMenRock.  There is a rich and true story about Brothas that must be told.  We are part of a great uprising that evidences our dream deferred.

Take a look at the different posts* we have in this ongoing series and please contribute in your way to the counter narrative. Consider contributing to us** with a video, rap, photoblog or other creative piece of your own that displays why #BlackMenRock.
